Thank You, Truck Drivers!
Yesterday kicked off National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (September 10-16) – a week-long celebration honoring the 3.5 million men and women professional truck drivers. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, these important workers make sure our goods are delivered to us safely and securely.
But it isn’t easy being a truck driver. In fact, it’s one of the most physically demanding and taxing professions around. On top of that, 70% of these individuals have one or more serious health problems and one-third do not have health insurance—and those that do have access to healthcare have trouble finding time to see providers thanks to working irregular hours, spending significant time away from home or having trouble navigating to the doctor’s office, pharmacy or hospital¹.
The best way we can think of to show our tremendous appreciation for truck drivers this week is by contributing to the St. Christopher Fund (SCF) through donations supported by our ongoing Transplace Cares program. The SCF is a truck driver charity that supports semi-truck drivers whose medical problems occurring with the last two years have led to financial hardship. The SCF mission is to help semi-truck drivers and their families meet their financial needs and assistance can come in the form of direct payment to providers for household living expenses, insurance, prescription drugs and some medical procedures. In addition, the SCF works to provider programs that will directly benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry.
Throughout this week, Transplace will be taking donations for the SCF. In addition, attendees of our annual Carrier Symposium (Sept 12-13) will be able to learn more about our campaign to support SCF and can make a donation in person.
